On Twitter – Titans First Loss Does Not Upset

The SPC Women’s Volleyball team challenged highly ranked HCC to five matches Tuesday September 22. Despite the loss, head coach Scott White said he is not worried. “This season we have a great group of girls from all over the world. HCC we knew was going to be a challenge because they are like number 1 in the state and 13 in the nation,” said Coach White.

The Titans battled against the highly ranked HCC Women’s Volleyball team, but lost 3-2. Freshman OH Amanda Silva and Sophomore OH Evgeniya Kruglova had huge plays. Silva thrived serving for the Titans and Kruglova dominated defending the court, which a lot of the time resulted in her slamming down on the court for a save. “We have been working really hard practicing and fighting to the end. We were missing in the beginning of the game and we can’t miss in the beginning,” said Amanda Silva.

Sophomore Kaitlin Boyd did not disappoint either, often times blocking center net in the second match. Titans began struggling in the back of the court and gave up points. Freshman M Brittany Taksas had a couple blocks by the net and Kayla Perry showed power on the right corner of the net. The girls efforts were not enough for a win, but they trailed often by only a couple points.

Many times within these matches the score was tied. In the first and last game, the Titans kept the score much closer. “The real issue was games 2 and 3. We needed to continue to stay steady and that is where it hurt us,” said Coach White.

The crowd during the game was larger than usual. Chants, stomps, the wave, and young girls cartwheeling were seen on the sidelines. “Tonight’s volleyball game has one of the biggest crowds that I’ve ever seen here,” said SPC Women’s basketball coach, Denisha Davidson.

The Titans have a group of talented hitters up front from all over the world. Recently college league volleyball lifted the limit on players allowed outside of the US. The Titans now have talent from 6 different countries, which has local university coaches in the stands watching closely. “I like having the other coaches here so I can help my girls get a scholarship,” said Coach White.
