SPC Volleyball Lady Titan’s Transition to the Sand
SPC Sports March 2, 2012SPC Volleyball has moved out to the sand, playing volleyball this spring break at the Undertow on St. Pete Beach. Our lady Titans have taken over the beach, moving out of the gymnasium, and into the sunshine. A change from six players indoor to only two on the sand, head coach Scott White is working our lady Titans hard for the change to the different playing surface. With the sun shining, the waves hitting the shore, music playing on the edge of the beach, and the rays sparkling on off the sand, this new sport has already taken off in the NCAA divisions. Being only a two year college, SPC is on the leading edge to bringing beach volleyball to the NJCAA. Following in the footsteps of Florida State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Tulane, and University of Southern California to name a few, this sport seems perfect for the local colleges to enjoy what the beach life of Florida has to offer.

Coach White has a lot of experience to pass down to our young lady Titans. During practice, coach White talks to each player, runs sprints, plays them, and guides them on the rigors of the sand. Taking them on their own court and going step by step through the game and its strategies. While the rules are similar to the indoor game, the playing field is a lot tougher to move around in. “It a lot harder to jump in the sand quickly,” said SPC setter Emily Keim.
From a fans point of view, the beach volleyball scene brings a lot of excitement to the beach. Picture this, bikinis, sweat, high caliber volleyball, the beach, the sun, and atmosphere of Spring Break, all of these describe the beach volleyball scene at SPC.
On March 16th, Hillsborough and Polk Community Colleges will be traveling to the Undertow on St. Pete Beach to take on our Titans in a non sanctioned scrimmage starting at 9am. Bring a beach chair, cold bottle water, sun screen, and attitude to watch our lady Titan’s compete in one of next top tear sports in the NJCAA and state of Florida. Enjoy the beach life too, while watching high caliber beach volleyball, and cheering on our SPC Titans. GOOOO TITANS!!!
