Titans baseball heats up, winning streak continues

Uncategorized

SPC Baseball continues their winning ways by sweeping the College of Lake County (Ill.) in a Monday double header.

A Matt Brandy home run tied the game at five after 5 innings of play.  Your SPC Titans took the lead with a Casey Jennings 2 out double driving in Steven Negron.  The Lake County Lancers came from behind and tied the game in the top of the 7th inning.  With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th (standard regulation for double headers), Skylar Fox pinch hit for outfielder Casey Jennings.  After working the count to three balls and one strike Skylar performed a very uneventful bases load walk giving the Titans their first walk off win of the season.

In Game 2 the Titans did not let up scoring 10 runs and allowing zero.  Starting pitcher Chris Chism went all five innings allowing 0 runs, allowing just 3 hits in a mercy rule shut out game.

The Titans next home game is a double header Wednesday 3/14 as they take on Dakota County Tech (MN) at Jack Russell Stadium.  Game Time 1:00pm.

These wins continue a hot streak fired up over spring break, with the Titans winning 4 games.

Great pitching performances were turned in by Zac Gordon, Corbin Hoffner, and Mike LaGrange; outstanding offensive performances by Lenin Sanchez, Matt Brandy, and Skylar Fox.  The SPC Titans are on the verge of turning their misfortune around and playing good baseball the rest of the season.

“With 18 freshman and 21 new players to the program the first part of our season was learning and teaching the game of baseball.  Our team has gained the experience necessary to be competitive and win baseball games the rest of the way.  It will be fun to watch” stated Coach Beckman following Saturdays 2-1 win over Macomb Community College.
