It is understandable that college students have a busy life, and that making time for extracurricular activities can be very difficult. Nonetheless, if you want your resume to soar above your competition when looking for a job, or filling out a college application, joining a student club or organization is one of the best things that you can do for your academic career. Joining a club/organization provides a wealth of opportunities that may not be available otherwise.
Joining a club/organization can greatly improve the quality of your resume. Potential employers look for academic involvement and leadership skills in your resume. Being involved in a club/organization can help you to develop new knowledge, which will help boost your performance in the work force. Being involved in a club/organization provides a team atmosphere, which is important because it teaches how to work well with others. Your involvement in a club/organization will also teach you responsibility, often exposing you to real life experiences.
A club/organization encourages a student to form strong relationships with students, and people within the community. Not only is being involved in a club/organization a great opportunity to make friends, but you may also make important business contacts for the future.
Being more involved in your campus life will also encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and participate in activities that you have never done before. These activities often enrich your college experience, and it also helps you to conquer your fear of public speaking.
Being a member of a club/organization may seem time consuming, but the work done in a club/organization is shared by all members. Members understand that school may sometimes have to come before your involvement. You will find that your team members won’t have a problem helping you finish your tasks, while also supporting your future endeavors. Time management is also an important skill that you will learn from your involvement in a club/organization. You will find that the leadership, communication, and innovative skills that you learn within a club/organization will benefit you for the rest of your life.
