Lady Titans Tennis Comes Home for Valentines Day

SPC Sports

The Sandbox News interviewed Lady Titans Tennis Coach, Phil Girardi about the 2014 season, which started with a warm-up against Weber International on February 7th, and runs until April 13th.

The SPC women’s tennis team is back on their home courts on February 14, 2014 at 3 PM against the State College of Florida Lady Manatees. Games are played at Treasure Beach Golf and Tennis in Treasure Island, and are free for students. Coach Girardi said that this game will be a challenging start for our Lady Titans because of the Lady Manatees’ strong starting line-up. Our extended interview is available on YouTube.

Fans can follow the team on twitter @SPCTennis, where Coach Girardi posts pictures, insights and articles from the Locker Room blog. The roster and schedule for the team are available on the SPC Athletics website. This newspaper covers sports and other St. Petersburg College events on our live twitter account @SandboxSocial. Photos and scores are posted to our Facebook, G+ and to our main Twitter account @TheSandboxN. Social media means you never have to miss a game, but the best way to enjoy a match is to be there at court side.

The Lady Titans’ tennis matches feature young athletes at the top of their game from right here in the bay area, as well as players from as far away as Sweden and Japan working together to bring home the championship for our school. While both doubles and singles matches are played at each game, doubles is the focus of college tennis. Doubles tennis combines teamwork, strategy, and lightning-fast reflexes, making it one of the most exciting sports played here at SPC. In our interview Coach Girardi, said that he makes the sport accessible by covering the action for the audience as the game is played.

Don’t miss out! Come watch the Lady Titans face State College of Florida on February 14th at 3 PM, and Florida State College Jacksonville on the 15th at 12:30 PM.
