On Wednesday, October 29, St. Petersburg College held its annual intramural King of the Hill soccer tournament on its Seminole campus; the tournament began with a match between Gibbs and Seminole.
The tournament was played on the recently opened soccer field on Seminole campus, home to the Seminole campus Soccer club. The first teams took the field at 1:30 PM. Gibbs took the field in green and white, and Seminole wore blue and white. Seminole’s team included Seminole Student Government Association President Jonathan Jacques, and peer advisors Melissa Petrescue and Madeline Stubbs. Provost Dr. Jim Olliver and Karen Kaufman White of Seminole and Gibbs campuses were on hand to cheer on their teams.
The game was six-a-side and played in two twenty minute halves. Gibbs campus started strong, with a relentless offense and a seemingly impenetrable defense in the first half. After the half, Seminole staged a comeback, winning the game seven to three. Only one ball was lost to the gators in the nature park. The team members came to the center of the field, shook hands and posed for photos. The tournament continued until 5:30 PM, with teams from throughout the St. Petersburg College system.
