Lady Titans Softball finish tournament 3-3


The SPC tournament this weekend started off rainy, forcing all games on Friday to be cancelled. Saturday 2/18 started off on the right foot, with SPC beating Broward 7-4. Talia Barraco pitched 4.666 innings and Allie Johnson came in as relief and received the win. Taryn Saito was 2-3, one double, one run scored and one stolen base; Shanelly Brown was 2-4 with two runs scored and three rbi’s.

The following game did not go as well for the Titans. NWF outscored SPC 7-3. The Titans had numerous opportunities to score runs, leaving 6 runners in scoring position, but were unable to push them across. Losing pitcher was Allie Johnson, despite relief effors by Breanna Sniffen and Erica Gulik. Shanelly Brown was 3-4, with a run scored and a stolen base. Giselle Delgado was 2-4 with 2 RBIs.

The last game of the day was a great experience for the Titans. Miami Dade and SPC were tied in the bottom of the 7th 4-4 and thus the game went into a texas tiebreaker in the 8th. The excitement, nerves and pressure put on the young freshman squad was intense, but they did not give up. After a back-and-forth couple of innings the winning walk-off double was driven in by Madison Morris in the bottom of the 10th.

  • Erica Gulik threw seven solid innings, giving up on only 5 hits.
  • Allie Johnson took the win with her three innings of work.
  • Hannah Kelly was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI; Staci Jones was 3-3, with 1 double, 1 triple 2 runs scored.
  • Madison Morris was 3-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI.

Sunday 2/19, SPC beat Pasco-Hernando 11-0 with freshman pitcher Talia Barraco taking her first official win of her college career. She threw 6 innings giving up only 4 hits, 1 walk and striking out three. The offense aided her in continuing to hit with runners on base. Third basemen Esther Leong was 2-4, 2 runs scored; Short stop Giselle Delgado was 2-4, 2 runs scored and an RBI; Designated hitter Staci Jones was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored; Catcher Tyler Davidson was 2-2 with 2 RBIs.

The following game was a tough loss against a nationally ranked Chattanooga State. Allie Johnson threw 5.333 innings, only giving up a run in the last inning that would give the win to State. Johnson had 2 k’s and gave up only 5 hits in the loss.

In the double header against Chattanooga State the Lady Titans were outscored 5-2. The offense was led by Madison Morris who was 1-1 with 1 triple, rbi, walk and sac. Esther Leong was 2-4 with 2 stolen bases. Erica Gulik received the loss, throwing 5.666 innings, giving up 10 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 3.
