The Student Charrette Show at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art
Uncategorized July 7, 2012The St. Petersburg College’s Tarpon Springs Campus is the host of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, who presented the Student Charrette Show, held in the spring and in the fall semesters each year. The show proudly displays student artwork produced in drawing and painting classes.
The first place ribbon in the Drawing II category with the three piece set “Self Portrait”, and winner of best in show with the composition entitled “The Golden Mean”, went to Morgan Duong. Morgan Duong is in the Early College Program, Honors College, and founder of the Art club on the Tarpon campus. This accomplished student has just finished her GEN-AA here at SPC and will be attending the Maryland Institute College of Art in the fall. The composition “Self Portrait”, will make a viewer want to tilt their head with the subject at first glance, but it is the use of charcoal, the shading, the consistency, and the detail in the features that make this drawing stand out.

The three piece set “The Golden Mean”, has amazing shading and detail in each composition’s clothes/sheets and shows Morgan Duong’s grasp of the human form. The detail in the hair of each piece, visible in the detail shots in the slideshow!
She has participated in the Charrette show in the past and in the Crystal Beach Art Show; this artist has just begun to show the world her talents. Her favorite medium to use is charcoal, she also enjoys using water color, and she appreciates other artist’s work as well. Her favorite things to draw include people and animals, but she does not enjoy drawing faces. When asked which one of the other drawings entered into the Charrette Show was her favorite Ms. Duong replied, “I like the “Water Cooler Women”, in pencil by Eric Kent, because I enjoy illustrations.” Eric Kent won 2nd place in the Drawing II category with his composition “Water Cooler Woman”.

She is an artist in many ways, including singing and song writing. Here she is performing one of her songs at the Lake Juliana Boating & Lodging in Auburndale, Florida (her performance is after the man with the dog).

She has also performed at the Undergounds Coffee House in Tarpon, Fl., where she received a nice review by the Tampa Bay Times: http://www.tampabay.com/tb-two/blog/2011/11/8/center-stage-undergrounds/.
Ms. Duong is not sure what she wants to do with the rest of her life, as many other seventeen year old students would agree, but she is excited to be going to MICA and she is interested in going into fashion. Look out world, Morgan Duong is well on her way to becoming a world famous artist!! Come out to the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art and see her talent!
