St. Petersburg College Launches Online Listening Post

News & Politics, SPC Programs & Events

President Bill Law will be the featured speaker at the first St. Petersburg College online Listening Post Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. Students, staff and members of the community are invited to join the conversation live at directlink.spcollege.edu.

Questions can be submitted in advance. Participants also will be able to use live chat to ask questions during the Listening Post and to make comments.

The Listening Post is part of an effort by St. Petersburg College to provide more information to students, employees and the public about higher education topics and to engage them in the conversation.

Law started face-to-face Listening Posts when he arrived at the college in 2010, traveling to campuses to hear directly from students and staff. The live-streamed, online Listening Post expands the audience for the forum.

Law or another member of the college’s leadership team plans to hold an online Listening Post monthly.

The online forum is one element of a new blog launched by the college in October. Direct Link tackles higher education topics such as financial aid, new requirements for the delivery of college-readiness courses, academic issues, grants, scholarships and more.

Posts on the blog come from the president and other members of the college’s leadership team including SPC vice presidents and deans.

“SPC faculty, staff and students will be able to have access to the data, discussion and thought processes that go into the decision-making at the college,” Law said in a welcome video on the blog. “Get involved in the conversation and let your voice be heard as we all work toward a common goal: The continued success of SPC and our students.”

To read Direct Link or to participate in the Listening Post, go to directlink.spcollege.edu.

During the Listening Post, the president will talk about the questions he’s received in advance. He also will take questions and address comments made through the chat feature.
