The St. Petersburg College Madrigalians showed off their talent and their holiday spirit at the St. Petersburg Main Branch Library on December 6th at a show hosted by the Friends of the Main Library.
Saturday’s performance featured choral director Vernon Taranto conducting the ensemble and Barry Stevens on the piano. Students Krisstina DeRemo, Katherine Knippel, Alexi Hayner, Elizabeth Rose, Colton Haynes, Zachery Bush, Ian Kellogg, Catlin Finch, Alyssa Long, Margaret Becker, Alyna Paparazzi, Joel Ball, Mark Bell, Vincent Sclafani, and Casey Faulkner sang at the event.
The group performed contemporary and classical music to a packed house this Saturday; the set list included “An Irving Berlin Christmas,” “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “Caroling, Caroling.” The concert concluded with a rendition of “Silent Night” in the original German and the audience was invited to join in for the chorus in English. After the final song Taranto announced that the group was selling fresh cut holiday wreaths to raise funds to send the Madrigalians on tour in Ireland in the spring 2015 term. The wreaths can be purchased by contacting the music department at 727-341-4360, or at any of the Madrigalians upcoming events.
The Madrigalians will be performing at the Leepa-Rattner museum on Tarpon Springs campus on December 13th at 3 P.M., at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church on December 14th at 3 P.M., and at the Epcot Center Candlelight Processional on December 15th. The show at the Leepa-Rattner museum is free, and the show at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church is free with a suggested five dollar donation.
