Tarpon’s Environmental Club Hosts Wildlife Expert

Wildlife 3Today students at the Tarpon Springs Campus welcomed Christina Kugeares, who gave a presentation on Wildlife Rehabilitation. Christina has been rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing wildlife for the past 11 years. She rescues birds entangled in fishing lines, orphaned squirrels and raccoons, songbirds and rabbits with the end goal of releasing them back into their natural environment.

During the presentation Mrs. Kugeares discussed how to prevent animal injury and what to do if an animal is found injured. Students had many questions regarding Florida laws to protect animals and how to volunteer to care for animals. If animal cruelty is observed it must be videotaped on a phone to show as evidence to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Christina is a math tutor on the Tarpon campus and does her rehab work on her own time. We were inspired by her presentation.
