Students from the Tarpon Springs Campus participated in the Great American Cleanup hosted by Keep Pinellas Beautiful. This is their second year volunteering for this event. Students worked for two hours cleaning up the Dunedin Causeway. There were over 150 volunteers signed up for this particular area. Kelli Stickrath, Environmental Club Faculty Advisor stated “we were proud to be a part of this event to help keepĀ our waterways clean and protect marine life”.

Event organizer, Stephanie Lawler-Ellington explained, “On Sunday, March 26th Keep Pinellas Beautiful hosted a debris cleanup at Dunedin Causeway. In an effort to combat this issue we partner with community groups and volunteers throughout the county to host community project (i.e. cleanups, invasive species, plantings, etc.) such as this to address the many challenges to maintaining a clean and healthy community. In total 91 volunteers attended this event removing an estimated 140 lbs of trash before it was able to enter our water ways.”
