Find Your Dream Job at Working Wednesdays

The start of spring term marks the return of Working Wednesday on two St.Petersburg College campuses. The weekly career event brings employers, non-profit organizations seeking volunteers, and internship opportunities to students in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. The event runs from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM in the ES lobby on Clearwater campus, and from noon until 2 PM in the UP lobby on Seminole campus.

The opening week on Seminole campus featured the City of Largo, RGIS Inventory Services, and Working Wednesday veteran Lavaland Productions. While the employers talked to students, the Seminole campus Student Government Association popped fresh popcorn for hungry job hunters. Peer advisors staffed the Career Services booth were showing off the free Focus 2, and Optimal Resume software that can make their job hunt easier.

The City of Largo was ready to make students feel welcome at their booth with pens, water bottles, and other goodies. Representing the city at Working Wednesday were Ali Burg, assistant supervisor of aquatics, Mike croft, a manager with the southwest recreation complex, Joan Walko of City of Largo human resources and Danny Castillo, a city fire inspector. They were at Working Wednesday to fill part-time, seasonal positions with the city. RGIS Inventory Services provides inventory audits to retail businesses in more than 40 countries around the world, and is a leader in the field. Area manager Mandy Youngblood and team leader Danny Phillips were at Working Wednesday to tell students about inventory auditor positions in their St. Petersburg territory. The job involves travel, and employees are expected to provide their own transportation within 30 miles of the office, beyond 30 miles the company will provide transportation. When asked about why she loves working for RGIS, Youngblood told this reporter that she enjoys the variety, no two assignments are the same, and likes being out instead of being stuck in a cubicle. She stressed that the company promotes from within, and provides plenty of opportunities for advancement.

Kemoi Brown of Lavaland Productions was back on campus to connect with the talented digital arts students on Seminole campus. Brown was looking for ambitious, creative photographers, videographers, and video editors to work as independent contractors on projects at Lavaland.
