CoMotion Dance Celebrating 30 Years

On Thursday, April, 23rd, at the Clearwater campus, St. Petersburg College’s CoMotion Dance Theatre had a celebratory spring dance concert to celebrate their 30th season of dancing. The dance performance was constructed of multiple different dances, each dance exemplifying different styles and techniques. With the performances choreographed by local directors in the Tampa Bay area, each dance was a jaw-dropping and quality performance.

CoMotion dance theatre has been studying and teaching the various styles of dance for the 30 years now. To celebrate, a spring performance was displayed for three consecutive nights. Each dance was different and varied from interpretive dancing, duets, and even ballet- but regardless of the style, each performance showcased all the hard work and dedication to master perfection. With multiple dances for each night, the crowd could not look away for one moment.

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, CoMotion Theatre even did a performance to depict the endless love a mother showers her child with. The dance was executed elegantly with amazing ballet skills showing the hard work each dancer has trained for. Techniques like an en-pointe, where the dancer is using the tip of her toes to support her weight, were jarring and almost painful to look at. From every elegant sashay to the bonding team work, it was easy to tell this dance was a special reminder of how elegant and caring a mother can be.

The dances allowed all members of the theatre to display their talent, whether they were the lighting production team or the music that went along with the dances. The costume designer even chose outfits with light colors and loose fitting, flowing tops to follow along with the spring season. The performers did a great job fulfilling each of their respective parts, and overall the event was a resounding success for St. Petersburg College.
