On Twitter – Titans vs. Polk State – 3/9

ecbb1On March 9th, the SPC Titans played their last baseball game of the 3-Game Series against Polk State with the first pitch thrown at 6pm. It was a hot and sunny evening at Joe DiMaggio Stadium in Clearwater. The Titans starting pitcher was #17, Jordan Doyle. This game was scoreless until the top of the 4th inning when Polk State’s lead-off batter hit a home run. The next batter up also scored, which made it 0-3 Polk State.

ecbb9In the bottom of the 5th inning, there was a pitching change and #25, Christian Hammond was the new pitcher for the Titans. After the Titans walked Polk State batter #3, the next two batters for Polk State hit the ball into fair territory, allowing runners to come home, which then made the score 0-5 Polk State. The Titans were able to catch Polk State’s base runner in a run down, trying to steal home, which ended the inning.

ecbb5The Titans came to life in the 6th inning as their lead-off hitter, #5, Cornelius Copeland, hit a base hit. The base hits started to become contagious as the Titans’ next batter #10, Kellen Brown, also hit a base hit giving the Titans a runner in scoring position for the first time in this game.

ecbb11The next batter up for the Titans was #15, Trey Amburgey, who hit a fly ball to left field and brought a runner home for the Titans, which made the score 1-5. The hits kept coming for the Titans as their next batter hit a ground ball to center bringing another runner home for the home team, decreasing their deficit by 3 as the score then became 2-5. The bases soon became loaded for the Titans, but Polk State got the runners out and the game quickly headed into the bottom of the 7th inning.

ecbb4In the 7th inning, there was another pitching change for the Titans, as #11, Hayden Goldman, headed to the mound. After an error by the Titans catcher, a runner stole home for Polk State and the score became 2-6 Polk State. The Titans got some momentum in the bottom of the 9th when a base hit for #23, Duke Stunkel, brought 2 runners home for the Titans which made the score 4-7, but it was not enough to get the win. Polk State secures the Sweep and wins this game 4-7 against the Titans.
