
Summer Commencement 2017

On Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at 10 AM graduates, their family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks for St.Petersburg College’s 134th Commencement ceremony. It began with musical selections by music student Mr. Kodey Beard followed by a Welcoming speech from the newly elected president of St.Petersburg college Dr. Tonjua Williams and proceeded to Invocation by Reverend Bridget Poole from the house of God Church, Keith Dominion. After the national anthem, the audience turned to the American flag to recite the pledge of allegiance and Dr. Williams went on with recognition of students and faculty. Graduating Students shared their perspectives and stories of challenges, recognition of the professors, tutors, fellow colleagues, friends and family that helped them get through their college journey. Then there was a presentation of candidates following the presentation of diplomas and closing remarks by Dr. Williams.
There were 262 graduates, the youngest a collegiate student aged 16 and the eldest a 68-year-old senior citizen, 22 students graduated with honors(3.30-3.49 GPA for A.A. and A.S. graduates) 26 graduated Cum Laude Honors(3.50-3.69 for all degree seeking graduates), 19 graduated with Magna Cum Laude Honors(3.70-3.89 for all degree seeking graduates), 12 graduated with Summa Cum Laude Honors(3.90+GPA for all degree seeking graduates). 32 Graduated with their Baccalaureate, with 5 of them being Cum Laude honors, 2 Magna Cum Laude and 3 Summa Cum Laude Honors. 19 graduated with a Bachelor Of Science, 2 of them with Cum Laude Honors, 2 with Magna Cum Laude Honors and 1 with Summa Cum Laude Honors. There were 134 who graduated with their Associate in Arts with 15 of them being Honors, 11 Cum Laude honors, 9 Magna Cum Laude Honors, and 4 Summa Cum Laude Honors. 63 Graduated with their Associates in Science, 7 of them graduating with Honors, 8 Cum Laude Honors, 6 Magna Cum Laude Honors, and 4 graduated with Summa Cum Laude Honors. 3 Students graduated with Advanced Technical Certificate, 2 with Applied Technology Diploma, and 9 with a Certificate.
