Without of a shadow of a doubt, the St. Petersburg College Lady Titan’s volleyball team has been dominating the court. They started their season on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 verses Pasco-Hernando State College with a victory of 3-1. Since their first match, the ladies won four additional matches with only one loss. With Hurricane Irma behind them, the Lady Titans are thirsty to continue their winning season. Their next home games are on 10/5: verses State College of Florida, 10/12: verses South Florida State College, 10/19: verses Hillsborough Community College, and on 11/25: verses Webber International.

After photographing their 2016 indoor season and their 2017 spring “beach volleyball” season, I can say that I have never seen a team play so hard on the court and with so much tenacity. They work as a team to drive the ball down the court with such great force that anyone watching them can experience the breeze of the ball whizzing by them and the thunderous shake when the ball strikes the opponent’s court. I have photographed many sporting events, and these ladies are a not a force to mess with.

According to Coach Scott White, his Lady Titans have several accomplishments and achievements behind their Titan spikes. The ladies have under their belt the following:

  • Michelle Valiente & Martyna Kloda played at the 2017 U21 World Championships
  • Giovanna Gonclaves defending her title against her new Titan teammate Kyce Martins at the U21 Brazilian Championship
  • The Lady Titans rank 13th in the 2017 NJCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball
  • SPC is returning 2 of its top 3 players statistically, Ana Costa and Beatriz Vieira

“Combine the 4 sophomores from last year with the 7 new freshman, this is probably the deepest team I have had in 15 years,” said Coach White

If you feel inspired after reading the Lady Titan accomplishments for this 2017 year and from seeing their photos, come out and support the team. They play at the SPC St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus’ GYM at 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg 33710. The best part is that all home games are FREE to students.
