Poetry: Humanistic Love
Out of the Sandbox February 7, 2017Feminism, what is it really….Is it a
catechism
Are the answers already set up with
questions in ‘em
Weren’t we all given a mission, and then built
so specifically different
Just look at the blueprint, different bones and different hearts
beating at different rhythms
I once said it was stupid but I said that out of ignorance since,
I grew up under my Mother’s wisdom
And my Dad treated her like a queen, he said that’s how
we’re supposed to treat women
But what if my Mamma never showed me the
vision
What if Grandma didn’t meet the very
definition
Of a true woman whose family came first when
she put herself second
What if I had to see life through a Suffragists’
prism
Oh, I don’t know, I might be in prison, I don’t
think I could have taken it sittin
The degradation and exclusion might have pushed
me past my limit
So show respect for women, for their strength
and their wisdom
A kind of respect my ancestors should have
given
While respect is earned, not given, I show respect
for previous missions
Lord knows, this life goes so fast if you blink
you might miss it
So from my heart to yours, thank you for your role
in this part of life we call….
